Adrift on midnight water
by Christian Joore

Paddle your wonder
adrift on midnight water,
a simple suchness
deep in silent order.
Then listen and be empty,
for quiet wisdom comes,
not as dim or as bright,
not an alluring logical light,
but glimmering inside,
aside sensation and sight.

A poem about meditation and its subtle process. Hinting towards the Buddhist idea of emptiness; where inquiry into the true nature of reality lies beyond the senses, and requires dissolving the distinction between ‘things’ and intuiting the universe as one interconnected phenomenon.
